German Things Around the House!

by Chelsea, Greg, Alden, Tom, Kelsey, Megan, Emily, Evan, Ethan, Alice, Nate, and Kenny

Why do you need to know our language topic? Well if you go to a German country and stay in someones house then you would need to know what they are telling you. Like if they ask you to go and get something in the kitchen they aren't going to say "Can you get the chips in the kitchen?" They are going to say it in German because not everyone speaks in YOUR language.

Tips:

1. Sport, stereo, poster, computer, basketball, sofa - They are the same in German, but you have to write them with a capital letter.

2. Family - All you have to do is take off the 'y' and add 'ie'.

3. Lamp - Add an 'e' to the end and you get Lampe. :)

4. Car - When you want to say car in German you just think of automobile (which is another word for a car) but shorten it to Auto.

5. Shoe - Even though it looks very different in writing, did you know that you say the word shoe the same way as in English?

6. Kitchen - Think that there are cockroaches in kitchens. Take out roaches. Now it almost sounds like Kuche.

7. Bed - It's real close to English also. Look at all the easy words on this page! Change the 'd' for two 't's.

We hope you find these tips helpful to learn how to speak in German!
