Many Spanish-speaking people live in the United States! If you look at North and South America, it is no wonder why...many people speak Spanish in Latin America...and one of our neighbors is in Latin America! Spanish-speakers in the USA use many of the words from our website every day. If you hear Spanish on the street, you may hear one or more of these words!!! 1. On vacation you can pretend to be a vaquero - a cowboy! Vaquero and vacation start with the same two letters.

2. Blanco reminds us of something blank that doesn't have any color. When you see a white piece of paper there are no other colors. That should help you remember that blanco is white.

3. The Rio Grande is a big river, don't you think? Grande actually means big!!

4. On July 4th many bands in parades have pictures of flags on their instruments and clothes. The BANDS are wearing banderas. Banderas = flags.

5. Romeo and Juliette loved each other. Red is the color of love. Think of their names to remember red. R + J = red. The two consonants in rojo are R + J.

6. Nature is naturaleza in Spanish. The word begins with natural. Something natural comes from nature. Not so hard you see.

7. To say Native American in Spanish, you have to do three things. 1) Switch the words around. 2) Make the words lower case. 3) Make the words end in 'o'. Now you have americano nativo.
